Gatineau driver arrested by OPP after crashing on Hwy. 416 closed

Police say they arrested and charged a 31-year-old woman with driving under the influence on Saturday after she crashed into a tree and fell into a ditch.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash along Highway 416 near Hunt Club shortly after 2 a.m. According to police, the car also crashed into a tree.

Police arrested the driver, Kaitlind Smith, for driving under the influence and charged her with:

  • Operating While Impaired: Alcohol and Drugs
  • Three operations while this is prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Failure or failure to meet demand
  • Obstacle peace officer

Smith was released and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

The OPP say they want to thank members of the public who continue to engage impaired drivers, which helps keep all Ontario roads safer for the driving public.
