Irish man dies off Portuguese coast – The Irish News

An Irish man has been declared dead after getting into trouble in the water off the coast of Portugal.

According to Portuguese officials, the 52-year-old was one of three people rescued by lifeguards at Praia do Inatel in Albufeira.

Emergency services attended and maritime police discovered the Irish man was unconscious when he was pulled from the water.

Portugal’s maritime authority said a resuscitation attempt was made but the man was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

His body was taken to a forensic science laboratory.

Officials believe the man got into trouble in the water, and two other members of the public got into trouble when they tried to rescue him without success.

Ireland’s Foreign Office said it was aware of the case and was providing consular assistance.
