Model attempted suicide after near-death accident involving drunk driver

A part-time model who was almost killed in a head-on crash with a drink driver has opened up about how she then tried to take her own life as she struggled with the aftermath of the horrific incident.

Rachel Downes’ life took a devastating turn on November 21, 2021, when she left her home in Stoke-on-Trent at 10am for a leisurely Sunday drive to a photo shoot. By 11am, just an hour later, Rachel was in a coma.

Three weeks after the terrifying incident, Rachel woke up in hospital with no memory of what had happened. She later discovered she was involved in a collision on the A51 Rugeley Bypass. Considering the severity of the accident, it was surprising that Rachel, then 28 years old, survived.

Rachel has spent the past two years determinedly trying to rebuild her shattered body and psyche, reports Stoke on Trent Live.

Paul Bloor, 48, of Kidsgrove, violated a suspended prison sentence he had received just six (6) days earlier. Now he finds himself behind bars thanks to public surveillance footage of him delivering a bouquet of flowers via the Ring doorbell.

In a separate incident, David Lovatt, roughly dubbed a ‘coward’, is now jailed at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after a violent incident outside a Meir bar in which he repeatedly stabbed a drinker with a chisel.

Looking back on the day of the accident, Rachel cannot believe the drastic changes in her life. In her words, “It really feels like it was a dream.”
