Crews respond to a 50-acre fire near Quesnel

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to multiple wildfires within the Cariboo Fire Centre. The largest of these is the Burgess Creek wildfire, which is about 50 hectares in size and located 45 kilometers south of Quesnel.

Due to high winds, the Burgess Creek wildfire is producing a large column of smoke visible from Highway 97, Williams Lake and Quesnel.

Crews, aircraft and heavy equipment are on site. Three other fires south of Quesnel are also being monitored by aircraft and crews are responding as needed. The Burgess Creek bushfire is out of control, meaning it is a bushfire that continues to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts.

The suspected cause is human.
