TCU and UT are set for the Big 12 Men’s Tennis Championship rematch

STILLWATER, Okla. – Top-seeded Texas will play No. 3 seed TCU in the finals of the 2024 Big 12 Men’s Tennis Championship on Sunday, April 21 at 1:00 PM CT at the Greenwood Tennis Center. The Longhorns defeated the No. 5-seeded Cowboys 4-1, while the Horned Frogs defeated the No. 2-seeded Sooners 4-1.

TCU captured its third Conference Championship title last year when it defeated the top-seeded Longhorns 4-1 in Lawrence, Kansas. It’s the third straight year the Horned Frogs have reached the final game of the weekend, while it will be Texas’ third appearance in the last four years.

No. 3 TCU 4, No. 2 Oklahoma 1
The Horned Frogs took the doubles point, starting with Jake Fearnley and Pedro Vives recording a 6-2 victory on the top court. Kholo Montsi and Luis Alvarez tied the match for the Sooners with a 6-3 decision on the second court before Jack Pinnington and Kaj Quirijns recorded a 6-4 result and the doubles point for TCU.

Vives (6-2, 6-3) and Fearnley (6-3, 6-3) scored the first two points of the singles match to push the lead to 3-0 before Justin Schlageter put OU on the board (7-6) . 8-6), 6-2). Tomas Jirousek piloted the Horned Frogs into Sunday’s match with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 performance.

No. 1 Texas 4, No. 5 Oklahoma State 1
The Cowboys struck first as they took the doubles point in tiebreaker fashion. UT’s Pierre-Yves Bailly and Eshan Talluri gave the Longhorns the advantage (6-3) on court No. 2 before Alessio Basile and Leighton Allen won 6-4 on the third court. OSU’s Tyler Zink and Isaac Becroft gave OSU an early 1-0 lead with a 7-6 (7-5) victory.

Gilles-Arnaud Bailly (6-0, 6-1) and Jonah Braswell (6-0, 6-1) countered as they combined to drop just two sets of 26, giving Texas a 2-1 lead. Eliot Spizzirri rallied after dropping the first set for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win for the third straight point for UT. Pierre-Yves Bailly ended the afternoon with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 score.
