Resident has ways to improve the Delta Free Tree program

The new Delta (free) tree program is an excellent idea looking for better implementation.

I think it’s a good use of ‘minimal’ amounts of tax dollars for maximum benefits for our future tree canopy. Our children and grandchildren will still benefit from it; However, I would like to propose a few changes for the next programme, probably this autumn.

Based on the high demand, increase the number of trees distributed and limit it to one tree per request until all requests are met.

Give people one of their three preferences or move on to the next request if these aren’t available. Based on my personal (anecdotal) information, less than one in ten trees received and many/most did not receive any of their three choices. Why bother with the current system if it’s not being followed?

People seem to be embracing ‘food’ trees such as apple, pear etc, so increase these and cut out the delicate exotics. Food indolence is positive and your children/grandchildren will thank you.

Keep up the good work Delta.
